What is the Follow up Supported Flats project?
Follow Up’s Supported Flats Project has nomination rights with a number of housing associations in Edinburgh. This means that, following a successful application we can put an individual’s name forward to a housing association for a flat. Accommodation is usually in the more central parts of Edinburgh.
We help people move in and also provide them with on going support to maintain their tenancy.
Who can apply to the project?
The project offers support to young people (16 to 25) with a history of homelessness or unsettled living.
What’s the application procedure?
Applications must come through an agency. We ask for written references and we interview short listed applicants to find out what they are looking for and to make sure that we can offer the right support.
What support do we offer?
We offer support with practical and emotional issues including:
- life-skills
- benefits
- resolving debt
- budgeting
- getting involved with other agencies
- accessing education, training and employment
- dealing with personal issues
We support people with a wide range of issues, including drugs, alcohol and mental health. In order for individuals to maintain their tenancy, we expect involvement with appropriate agencies regarding these issues.
We normally offer support for a period of one to two years.
Will I have to pay?
All support costs are met by Supporting People funding and rent is met by housing benefit, if eligible. However, if an applicant is in employment or full time education they may have to pay some or all of the rent costs.
