Edinburgh Furniture Initiative
What we do
The project delivers free essential household furniture and electrical items to new tenants who are surviving on a low income and who are not able to furnish their homes without assistance. All electrical goods are fully tested to ensure they reach British Safety standards.
If you are a new tenant requiring help, request your housing officer, social worker or support worker to refer you to EFI for assistance.
Reuse Project at Community Recycling Centres
EFI, in partnership with City of Edinburgh Council, operate Reuse Cabins at Community Recycling Centres (formerly Civic Amenity Sites) in Edinburgh.
Items in working order and in good condition that you no longer need can be donated to the project at these cabins. Please check here for information about our award winning Reuse Project at CRCs.
Helping the environment
EFI is a re-use project diverting furniture and appliances away from landfill. Business and members of the public with unwanted; good quality furniture and domestic appliances can arrange a free uplift from EFI.
Business donations
Does your business ever have unwanted domestic furniture, appliances, small electrical items or other household goods?
By helping EFI it will help your business to:
- Contribute to the local community
- Help the environment
- Save on disposal costs
- Generate good publicity
- Boost staff morale
Bulk donations from business include bedroom furniture, bedding, curtains, carpets, fridges and washing machines. If your business has end-of-line goods, or if you are refurbishing your premises, then EFI would like to offer you a constructive alternative to disposal.
